Programme profile: Electronic Circuit Design and Signal Processing (ESS)
The Institute of Electronics and Biomedical Information Technology is responsible for organising the ‘Electronic Circuit Design and Signal Processing’ (ESS) specialisation within the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
The modules in the field of circuit technology and signal processing teach the methodological foundations and current technologies of hardware design, as well as digital signal processing using FPGAs and embedded systems. These include lectures on electromedical engineering, biosignal processing and communications engineering.
The programme is designed to enable our graduates to understand and master the design of electronic components, as well as to develop algorithmic solutions for digital signal processing tasks. The Institute of Electronics and Biomedical Information Technology offers numerous compulsory-elective modules covering a wide range of application areas: machine learning, digital audio signal processing, medical electronics, biosignal processing and software-based telecommunications engineering. This opens up a wide range of career opportunities, for example with manufacturers and users of electronic systems, in hardware-related software development, and with engineering service providers.
The Master’s programme is designed to equip students with the skills required for independent academic work. Successful graduates may also begin their professional careers as research assistants on a research project at the university or at FTZ e.V., whilst, where possible, gaining further academic qualifications through a PhD.
