A 3D-printed modular microbiome-host model of the lung for investigating the pharmacokinetics of pulmonary medicines
Project duration: 07/2024 – 06/2026
The aim of this project is to design and develop a bespoke cultivation chamber that meets the specific requirements of the microbiome model. The chamber will be constructed to enable precise temperature control in two separate compartments, in order to create the desired conditions for the growth of various microorganisms. To monitor microbiome growth efficiently, impedance sensors will be embedded in the cultivation chamber. Furthermore, pH electrodes will be installed to accurately measure the environmental conditions within the cultivation chamber. These will enable continuous monitoring of the pH value in the cultivation medium.
A central control unit records and stores all measurement data and enables the chamber parameters to be controlled. The collected data is stored in a database and can be used for further analysis. The aim is to create a flexible and reliable platform for microbiological investigations.
